Trip Highlights
Come
be a part of this exhilarating self contained run down the Upper Brahmaputra
(or Siang as it is known in Arunachal Pradesh).
Big drops, grade 4-5 rapids, riffles, strong eddies, dense forests,
inaccessible gorges, remote tribal settlements and much more on
this 08-day white water expedition that covers 180 km.
The 2008 Brahmaputra Expedition is being jointly conducted with
Aquaterra Adventures, an internationally recognized rafting company
in India.
The Brahmaputra originates at Lake Mansarovar in Western Tibet
as the River Tsang Po. It runs 2000 miles across the Tibetan plateau
at an altitude of 11,000 - 12,000 feet. It then turns sharply to
the south around Namche Barwa and cuts through the great Himalayan
Range, carving for itself deep and inaccessible gorges before it
enters the Indian sub continent. Here it enters into the state of
Arunachal Pradesh as the Siang. After cascading down 600 km of grade
4 - 5 rapids the Siang enters Assam at Pasighat and is renamed as
the Mighty Brahmaputra.
The expedition begins with a ferry boat ride from Dibrugarh up
the river to the plains of Pasighat. This is followed by a 2 day
drive along the Siang river to our put in point at Tuting. The raft
down the Brahmaputra takes past remote hillsides dotted with tribal
settlements, dense rainforest with many species of ferns, palms
and orchids and through some of the biggest rapids rafted commercially.

One will have enough opportunity to admire the rich migratory bird
life and if we are lucky, we might even be followed by Fresh Water
Ganges Dolphins. The ferry ride culminates with a short 45 minutes
drive to the small town of Pasighat at the foothills of the eastern
Himalayas.
Overnight at Pasighat in tents/ local guest house.
Day 03-04 : Pasighat - Tuting

the lower sections of the Siang that runs parallel to the famous Namdapha

has been opened very recently. All the initial expeditions on the
Siang had to trek for four days to get till this point
