About the Park
Established in 1966 this small sanctuary lies in the foothills of
the Himalayas, close to the well known towns of Dehra Dun and Rishikesh.
A trip to Rajaji national park can be combined alongwith a trek in
the Garhwal Himalayas or with white water rafting on the holy river
Ganges. Nomadic sheperds called Gujjars stay in these forests during
the winter months.
Common Animals
Elephants, sambar deer, spotted deer, barking deer, goral, wild boar,
tiger, leopard, langur, rhesus monkey.
Common Birds
Leothrix, flycatchers, cormorants, flower peckers, sun-birds, golden
oriole, thrushes, tree pies, barbets, wood-peckers, jungle fowl,
minivets, bulbuls, wabblers, pheasants, pariah-kite, vultures and
many many more
